Transformation Does Not Happen Overnight

When I first started coaching, my clients thought they could change in one session, achieve their goals and be ‘fixed’. They wanted to change NOW and not in a few months. 🙌🏼

Before we start, let me clarify something, you are not broken and don’t need fixing, however bad you may feel. All of the good stuff is there inside you. You can absolutely influence your circumstances and adopt a completely different perspective that can change your life magically. 😎

Then, motivation IS important, but it also requires consistency and time for your brain to rewire. 🧠 Repetition is your friend here.

So, you have guessed, transformation does not happen overnight, and it’s not an easy thing. The deeper we dig to transform the more we find out about who we are and that’s the beauty of the human being. For me there are 2 key factors that will help in your transformation.

The 2 Pillars of Transformation

Find your Champion

I’ve just done a session with my coach, she is free, authentic and fun! 🥳 These are also strong values of mine and I had not been living up to them, which is why I chose to work with her.

I’ve been with her for a year now and it was emotional to realise the transformation I’d gone through since we had started and the impact, she’s had on me.

She has seen my anger, my tears, my deepest fears but she has also seen my laughs, my strengths and above all she has seen what I was capable of before even I could see it – she has been my best champion. 🏅

She was there to witness my courage as I took the actions that would make me become the person I wanted to be and showed me the way. She held a safe space for me to explore all the good and the ‘not so good’ stuff buried deep inside me. Digging them out was painful, but it felt liberating to let go of some of these burdens and plan for a new career that had a purpose for me.

Who I was when I started is no longer who I am writing these words now and her support has been instrumental in my transformation.

Support your Big Transformation with Little Steps

There have also been those incredibly important ‘little steps’ like changing my routine to be more present and connected to me and others, going out more for walks in nature, be more grateful for what I have, ground myself with meditation, etc. All these ‘little steps’ have been taking me on a better journey and I could not have achieved the big transformation if it had not been for the ‘little steps’.

Think of it like the pilot fish, who always sticks to the huge whale shark and feed off of parasites on their host’s skin. Without them, sharks’ health would be affected. Well if you don’t make small changes to support the big ones, the transformation will not be sustainable, you need your own pilot fish.

Best Way to Change What is Not Working for You?

On top of having a coach who will direct, challenge and champion you along the route of those ‘little steps’, use the following process:

1-   Identify your goal – how can you know where you’re going if you don’t have a destination? 🗺

2-   Plan your transformation map with small and regular milestones – as many as you like and plan celebrations each time you reach a milestone. Your brain and body need to remember how good it feels to change 🧭

3-   Surround yourself with the right people, those who will celebrate with you but also challenge you when you need a kick in the b… and, support you when you feel down – remember this quote:

Build your squad, and make sure you admire all of them! 👯

4-   Be patient and welcome the setbacks – they are minor interruptions compared to your unshakeable goal and perfectly natural in the world of cycles we live in. Most important: don’t lose sight of your goal. 🎯

5-   You can change the way you think and the way you do things, it’s called Neuroplasticity. The way to do it is by doing it again, and again, and again. Remember raising your children or training your puppy? Repetition is key, and that’s the same for fully grown adults. 🎬

Now don’t settle for good enough, you only have one life, make the most of it. 💃🏽💪🏼

I’d love to hear your thoughts, leave a comment with what you consider being the biggest obstacle to your transformation and why. 🙏🏻
